A shy young woman marries the wealthy, brooding widower Maxim de Winter and moves into his grand estate, Manderley, only to find herself constantly overshadowed by the memory of his glamorous first wife, Rebecca, who died under mysterious circumstances. The sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers, still fiercely devoted to Rebecca, works to convince the new bride she can never measure up, until dark secrets about Rebecca's death and true character finally surface. Alfred Hitchcock's gothic thriller follows the unnamed heroine's growing paranoia as Manderley's buried truths threaten to destroy her marriage and her sanity.
