Father Chuck O'Malley, a young, unconventional priest, arrives to take over a struggling New York parish from its elderly, traditionalist pastor Father Fitzgibbon, immediately clashing with the older man's rigid ways even as he wins over the neighborhood's troubled youth through music and charm. As O'Malley works to save the parish from foreclosure and mentor a group of wayward boys into a choir, he and Fitzgibbon slowly build a genuine friendship across their generational divide. Leo McCarey's warm-hearted comedy-drama, built around Bing Crosby's crooning, finds gentle humor and faith in the meeting of old and new ways.
