A liberal-minded teacher in Sweden struggles to control and connect with a classroom of unruly, disengaged children, finding the demands of the job steadily wearing down his idealism. Per Oscarsson stars in this bleak, black-and-white portrait of a well-meaning educator ground down by an indifferent system and students he can't reach. Clas Engström adapted the screenplay from his own novel about the quiet collapse of one teacher's convictions.
