Workaholic advertising executive Ted Kramer is left to raise his young son alone after his wife Joanna, unhappy and unfulfilled, walks out on their marriage. Ted struggles to balance a demanding career with single fatherhood, gradually building a close, hard-won bond with his son just as Joanna, having found her footing, returns to fight for custody.
