In Buenos Aires in 1983, history teacher Alicia lives a comfortable life with her government-connected husband Roberto and their adopted daughter Gaby, largely insulated from her country's recent political violence. Conversations with a returning friend and a chance meeting with a grandmother searching for a missing grandchild lead Alicia to suspect that Gaby was taken from a mother who disappeared under the military dictatorship. As she pushes for the truth, Roberto's evasiveness and anger force Alicia to confront both her husband's complicity and her own willful blindness, and she ultimately leaves him.
