Sarah Lawson, in the midst of a difficult divorce, moves in with her brother Robert Harmon, a hard-drinking writer who avoids emotional commitment despite his relationships with women. When Robert is forced to look after the young son he has never known, the visit unsettles both father and son, while Sarah tries to draw Robert out of his self-destructive isolation. As the siblings care for one another through their respective crises, the film builds to a surreal, dreamlike reckoning with love, loneliness, and family bonds.
