Mihai and Lisbet Gheorghiu, a Romanian-Norwegian couple raising their children according to their conservative Evangelical beliefs, relocate to Lisbet's remote hometown in Norway. When local welfare authorities interpret the family's traditional child-rearing, including physical discipline, as abuse, their children are taken into state custody and the couple is thrust into a grinding legal battle to get them back. Inspired by a real case, the film follows the family's collision with a society that prizes tolerance yet shows little patience for those who live by different rules.
