Sisters Nora and Agnes Borg reunite with their estranged father Gustav, a once-celebrated film director, when he resurfaces seeking to make one last film about his own mother. Gustav wants to shoot the project in the family's childhood home and casts a rising American actress, Rachel, in the lead role after Nora turns him down, reopening old wounds between father and daughters. As the production moves forward, the family is forced to confront the grief and resentment that drove them apart in the first place.
