In the summer of 1945, shortly after the end of the Nazi occupation of Denmark, a young nanny and housemaid named Marie prepares to marry her wealthy employer while concealing a secret from her past. As the wedding draws near, the truth she has buried threatens to resurface and unravel the new life she has built for herself. Set against a country still reckoning with the war, the film traces Marie's quiet reckoning with guilt, class, and self-reinvention.
