Hossain Sabzian, an unemployed film buff, convinces a wealthy Tehran family that he is the director Mohsen Makhmalbaf and says he will cast them in his next film, until he is arrested for fraud. Kiarostami filmed the real trial and had the real people re-enact the events, and the film ends with Sabzian meeting the real Makhmalbaf.
