In Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia after the assassination of SS official Reinhard Heydrich, young Jirka, whose family was murdered in the Lidice reprisal massacre, is consumed by grief and a need for revenge as he goes to work at a German-controlled military airport where his uncle is secretly aiding the resistance. Jirka's reckless attempt to steal a grenade gets him arrested and executed, triggering a chain of exposure that endangers the entire resistance cell, including a secretary spying from inside the Nazi command. František Čáp's drama traces the human cost of occupation and resistance through a community bound together by grief and quiet defiance.
